32 Stadiums Tour – Stop #1: Chicago
Windy City Stadium
Our journey begins in Chicago, the iconic ‘Windy City,’ where our stadium tour officially takes flight. Known for its rich history, bold flavors, and passionate sports culture, Chicago sets the stage for everything to come. Before we step through the gates of our first stadium, let’s explore the spirit of the city and some of the adventures we’re aiming to capture along the way.
Local Must-Eats:
Deep-dish pizza – gooey, cheesy, layered perfection.
Chicago-style hot dog – “dragged through the garden,” no ketchup allowed.
Italian beef sandwich – dipped, messy, and delicious.
Garrett Mix popcorn – the perfect salty-sweet combo.
What’s on Tap
Chicago’s brewing culture is strong. From Goose Island to Revolution Brewing, there’s no shortage of great beers. And for the brave: take a shot of Malört, the city’s signature bitter liqueur that’s practically a rite of passage.
The Stadium Experience
Stadium: Soldier Field
Team: Chicago Bears
Vibe: Historic, passionate, and fiercely loyal.
Soldier Field is one of the NFL’s most iconic venues. Opened in 1924, it’s the oldest stadium in the league still in use, and its lakeside setting makes it stand out immediately. From the outside, you’ll notice the massive colonnades, a throwback to its original design, blended with a futuristic renovation that gave it its current look.
Inside, the stadium seats around 61,500 fans, making it one of the smallest in the NFL, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in intensity. Bears fans are loud and live for game day whether it’s 80° in September or -10° in December with the wind howling off Lake Michigan.
Game Day Traditions:
Tailgating kicks off early in the South Lot and Waldron Deck where people fill their belly with brats, Italian beef sandwiches and don’t forget beer.
The Bears fight song, “Bear Down, Chicago Bears,” rings through the stadium after every score.
The stadium offers one of the most dramatic backdrops in football, with the Chicago skyline on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. Looking forward to seeing that.
When the Bears take the field in their classic navy and orange, the energy feels less like a regular-season game and more like a neighborhood gathering of diehards who’ve been bleeding Bears football for generations. Let’s go!
Iconic City Stops
The Bean (Cloud Gate) – the classic Chicago selfie spot.
Willis Tower Skydeck – step out on the glass if you dare.
Navy Pier – rides, fireworks, and lake views.
The Chicago Riverwalk – perfect for strolling, sipping, and people-watching.
Wrigley Field – baseball or not, it’s a Chicago landmark.
Final Takeaway
Chicago is a city that does everything with attitude from the food that sticks with you, fans who never give up on their Bears, and landmarks that define a skyline. This stop on the 32 Stadiums Tour proves why Chicago is always a heavyweight on any traveler’s list.
